My nephew was turning one and I wanted to create a cookie in honor of his birthday. The birthday party was being held on Cape Cod, so naturally it was a nautical theme. Whale and sailboat cookies would be a perfect sweet ending to a day of fun and family. I am comfortable making cookies, but decorative cookies is a new area of baking for me. I learned so much during this process and have created more goals to meet next time. It was also nice to go on this baking adventure with my toddler, as he helped me prepare the cookies dough, roll and cut out the shapes. Luckily the cookie dough was sturdy enough to keep a nice clean edge and my energetic kitchen helper didn’t break too many.
Have you made decorative cookies before? What is your advice for someone starting out?
