Netherlands Feature: Assorted Homemade Pizza Breads

Winter is here! And in The Netherlands that means either a soft winter or a harsh one! We simply don’t know what we can expect until it happens (typical Dutch weather)

Me and my family live in the harbor capital of Europe Rotterdam where we overlook The Meuse (Maas) river and watch countless freight and passenger ships pass by our house on a daily basis.  My inspiration for cooking usually starts out at the Saturday fruit and vegetables market in the center of Rotterdam. This is where it all happens! The smell and freshness of all the wonderful fruits, vegetables and famous Dutch cheeses being sold.  It really is an amazing place!  Here, I let my senses go wild and trigger the various inspirations on the fly and I decide right there and then what it is that i will be cooking for dinner tonight!

Our two year old son Noah is with us the entire time and engages in the market activity as well bagging the goods, helping weigh it and paying for it. He really loves to be involved.  Noah has been helping me out since he was about 20 months or so and has been part of my creative cooking /baking process ever since.

For today s dinner I have decided to bake Assorted Pizza breads.  I’ve used several types of ingredients so everyone can have his favorite one.  The base for all the assorted pizzas is tomato sauce, red onions and 2 kinds of cheese. ( mozzarella and Dutch cheese both grated.)

After I’ve prepared the pizza dough, Noah jumps in and helps me roll out the dough. After this is will split the dough in half and start rolling the dough in 8 balls. I’ve rolled each ball of dough very thin.

I gave Noah his own ball of dough to see how he reacts to it, and to my surprise he reached out to use the dough cutter to started on his own creation. I really love to see him in action and of course capture every minute of it!

Here you’ll find the recipe and instructions for the assorted pizza breads below.  I’ve made different variation styles of crusts to give them all a distinct character and unique look!
